11-Year-Old Single Cask Rum from Nicaragua
Nicaragua has a long tradition of rum production. The country’s style is often associated with balance, roundness, and an elegant sweetness.
This S.B.S. bottling showcases a more intense side of Nicaraguan rum. Column distillation creates an elegant distillate that gains extra character through extended aging.
After 11 years, the rum has developed a mature profile. Fruit, caramel, and spices are complemented by a distinct yet well-integrated oak character.
Bourbon & Virgin Oak
The cask combination is central to the rum’s character. The bourbon cask contributes classic notes of vanilla, caramel, and sweet spices.
Virgin Oak adds more power from the oak. Here, toasted notes and extra spice come into play. This gives the rum structure and a deeper oak character.
Together, the two cask types create an exciting contrast. The bourbon cask provides roundness, while the virgin oak adds intensity and structure.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Rich with ripe fruit, vanilla, and dark caramel. Toasted oak and warm spices gradually emerge in the glass.
Taste: Intense and round with caramel, vanilla, and ripe fruit. Spicy oak provides structure, while sweet notes create balance.
Finish: Long and warm with vanilla, spices, and toasted wood. Caramel and ripe fruit linger in the full-bodied finish.
An intense 52% rum
S.B.S. Nicaragua 2015 combines extended aging with an interesting barrel profile. The 52% ABV provides extra concentration and makes the rum ideal for slow sipping.
Enjoy it neat in a good glass. Let it sit for a few minutes before taking your first sip. This allows the many aromas to develop.
You can also try adding a few drops of water. This can open up the rum and highlight the more delicate fruit and spice notes.
