Taylor’s Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port 2015 – Classic Single Quinta Port from Douro

Taylor’s Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port 2015 is an impressive vintage port from one of the Douro Valley’s most famous wineries. Taylor’s is renowned for producing some of the world’s most elegant and age-worthy ports, and Quinta de Vargellas is one of its most prestigious properties.

Quinta de Vargellas is dramatically located on the Douro River in the upper part of the valley. The area is known for its wild landscape, steep terraces and ideal conditions for growing port grapes. Here the grapes ripen slowly during hot summers and cool nights, resulting in concentrated and aromatic wines.

The grapes for this port are from the 2015 harvest. After harvest, the grapes are traditionally stepped on foot in the classic granite vats called lagares. This method ensures a gentle extraction of color, aroma and tannin, which gives the port its depth and structure.

Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port is only made in years when Taylor’s does not declare a full vintage. In these years, the best grapes from the estate are selected and bottled as a so-called “Single Quinta Vintage Port”. The result is a port with great character, intense fruit and great aging potential.

The port was bottled in 2017 and will develop beautifully in the bottle over many years. It can be drunk young for its intense fruit, but will gain even greater complexity and depth over time.

Aroma: Intense aromas of black cherries, blackcurrants, plums and dark berries with hints of spice and violets.

Taste: Rich and concentrated with ripe dark fruits, chocolate, licorice and firm tannins.

The story behind Taylor’s Port

Taylor’s is one of the oldest and most respected port houses in the Douro. Founded in 1692, the house has been known for more than three centuries for Port wines with elegance, structure and great ageability.

Quinta de Vargellas has been owned by Taylor’s for over 100 years and is today considered one of the most iconic wineries in the Douro Valley. The vineyard supplies some of the most important grapes for the house’s great vintage port wines and is internationally recognized for its quality.
