Beenleigh #173 15 years old Australian Rum 65,2% 2023

Beenleigh is the oldest registered distillery in Australia, established in 1884 as the legal successor to the SS Walrus, a floating moonshine still that was sailed between sugarcane plantations to avoid the local police. The boat’s still was used to open the distillery, which prospered during the 20th century, out-selling its rivals Bundaberg brand during the 1960s and 70s. Subsequent decades were less favourable however, seeing it lose its market share amongst a series of ownership changes. The discontinued Beenleigh brand was resurrected by Stuart Gilbert in 2000 however, and when he sold it to VOK Beverages in 2012, they also bought the old distillery, reuniting the two and ushering in a second age of Beenleigh rum production. The distillery operates a continuous column still installed in 1981, and a copper pot still dating from 1887.

Silver Seal was founded by Ernesto Mainardi in 2000. This was Mainardi's second bottling company after the esteemed Sestane in 1979. Both companies were sold to Massimo Righi in 2010, with Ernesto's original releases becoming increasingly prized possessions by collectors.

Mhoba Sugar Estate
Pure simple rum from Sugarcane Juice 2017

First limited edition bottling between Luca Gargano of Velier and the Mhoba Rum distillery. This rum is produced from Nkomazi's sugar cane juice, grown on Mhoba's own farm in the heart of the sugar cane growing area located in the Crocodile River Valley in South Africa. Distilled by Robert Greaves in self-built high reflux pot stills and aged in French oak casks from former red wine. Usually this distillery produces Single Blended (traditional column + pot still) extracted from pure sugar cane juice grown in the Crocodile River Valley in the Onderberg District of Mpumalang.

Pagos 100% ex-sherry cask

Pagos marks the beginning of a new era in our long history, which began in 1753. This rum was fully matured exclusively in 500-liters sherry butt, previously used for ageing high quality Oloroso and Pefro Ximénez sherry in some of the most famous bodegas of Andalucia. Pagos is the marriage between a unique and rich rum and the best Sherry casks with a congeners content of 1.603,5 gr/hlpa of which 394 gr/hlpa are esters.

West Indies Rum Distillery was founded on Brighton Beach in 1893 by George Stade, a genius inventor whose dream was to make the world´s best rum. His secrets are preserved in archieves in the Distiller´s vault at W.I.R.D. Today, Alexandre Gabriel, Plantation Rum Master Blender revives this spirit of innovation with a constant stream of experiments in fermentation, distillation and ageing, exploring ancestral techniques with fresh eyes.

This is the last of Caroni Employees and is deedicated to Fredi Marcarini, Rudy Moore and all the 15 former employees that we reunited in 2017.

A Tribute to A.H. Riise's Legacy
Albert Heinrich Riise was not only a master distiller, but also a passionate botanist and scientist. His extensive collection of herbs, plants and shells can be found today at the Zoological Museum in Copenhagen as well as in museums in Stockholm and Oslo. Several animal species bear his name, including Brachiotenthis Riisei, a small, colorless squid from the West Indies, recorded by zoologist Professor Johannes Steenstrup in 1882.

There, he ventured deep into the heart of the Don Jose Distillery, seeking the perfect treasure for rum enthusiasts. Meticulously navigating througth rows of aged casks, to select 22 exquisite barrels of the finest Panama 2010 vintage.

In Plantation Rum´s signatore double-ageing technique, this unique expression is aged 8 years in Panama´s lush rainforrest, then shipping by sea to the south-west of France, where it matured another 5 years in French oak casks.

With unwavering passion and expertise this meticulously crafted one-time limited edition promises to captivate the senses and indulge the palate with its exceptional flavours are combined with fresh coconut and spices.

The fragrant taste of this unusual old rum is achieved by long aging in the cellars of the Montebello distillery.

Rhum Montebello comes from Basse-Terre, which is the western half of the island of Guadeloupe. The distillery was founded in 1930, and is actually called Distillerie Carrere, but is better known today under the name of the largest rum brand: Montebello. The distillery itself has approximately 15 hectares of sugar cane (including Canne Rouge and Canne Jaune), and when that is not enough, they buy sugar cane from the local farmers in the area around Petit-Bourg. The rum is made from the fresh juice and distilled in column stills. It then spends some time in a steel tank before being aged in bourbon casks, cognac casks or wine casks – if it is not bottled like Montebello's terrific rhum blanc.

The superb rhum agricole from Montebello is not yet well known in Denmark, but has a brilliant reputation in France, where most of the production is still sold. We are happy that the Danes now also have the chance to try one of the pearls of the Caribbean.

Black Tot Master Blender´s Reserve resurrects the art of rum blending pioneered by the British Royal Navy. Our 2023 edition brings together blended rums from Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad and Grenada alongside a reserve of rum kept back from last year´s Master Blender´s 2022 release.

Each component has been crafted from a range of aged rums from each country, exploring the individual layers of flavours and textures from the different marques and maturation cycles.
