The Story of Barros – Port Wine with Proud Traditions

Barros was founded in 1913 by Manuel de Almeida under the name Almeida & Ca. His vision was clear: to create one of the world’s most renowned port houses.
By the time he passed away in 1974, that dream had become a reality — Barros accounted for around 6% of all port production in Portugal.

Barros built its reputation especially through its famous Colheitas – single-vintage ports aged for at least seven years in cask, often much longer. This dedication to quality has made Barros one of the most respected names in the world of port wine.

Since 2006, Barros has been part of the Sogevinus Group, which also owns Kopke and Burmester – two other highly regarded producers.
