Ben Nevis 13-Year-Old Campbeltown Highland Single Malt 46% Cadenhead’s Original Collection
Ben Nevis 13-Year-Old Single Malt from Cadenhead’s Original Collection is a distinctive Highland Single Malt, where classic distillery character meets elegant cask aging. The combination of bourbon and oloroso hogsheads creates a whisky with fresh fruit, creamy sweetness, and deep, spicy notes.
The whisky was distilled in 2012 and bottled in June 2026 after 13 years of maturation. At Cadenhead’s, the philosophy is simple: Let the distillery speak for itself. That’s why the whisky is bottled without unnecessary intervention, so that both the cask and the distillate retain their natural character. With an alcohol content of 46%, this bottling delivers a beautiful balance between power, complexity, and elegance.
The bourbon casks contribute notes of vanilla, honey, and ripe fruit, while the Oloroso hogsheads add depth with toasted nuts, dried fruit, and warm spices. Ben Nevis’s distinctive, slightly waxy, and full-bodied style ties it all together, resulting in a whisky with plenty of personality and a long finish.
This is a whisky that will delight both collectors and experienced whisky enthusiasts seeking an authentic Highland experience with a distinct distillery character.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Biscotti, dried apricot, raisins, and Scottish fruitcake. This is followed by orange peel, ginger, vanilla, and a hint of toasted almonds.
Palate: Creamy and full-bodied with golden syrup, walnuts, caramel, and ripe stone fruits. Cardamom, cinnamon, and dark honey add warmth, while the vanilla from the bourbon cask rounds out the experience.
Finish: Long and elegant with hazelnut, cocoa, blackcurrant, and lightly toasted oak notes. A subtle bitterness creates a beautiful balance and invites you to take another sip.
The Distillery’s History
Ben Nevis Distillery was founded in 1825 at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, near the town of Fort William. The distillery is known for its rich and slightly waxy style, which sets it apart from many other Highland distilleries. Since 1989, the distillery has been owned by the Japanese company Nikka, but production continues to follow classic Scottish traditions.
Cadenhead’s was founded in 1842 and is Scotland’s oldest independent whisky bottler. The company has built a worldwide reputation for selecting particularly interesting casks and presenting whisky in its most natural form. The Original Collection series is designed to highlight the distilleries’ unique character through carefully selected cask combinations and classic bottlings.
