Taylor’s 1970 Single Harvest Very Old Port – Extremely rare vintage port from Douro

Taylor’s 1970 Single Harvest Very Old Port is the epitome of classic, world-class barrel-aged tawny port. An exclusive and rare vintage port from Douro, created by one of the most iconic port houses of all time. Aged for decades in oak barrels and only bottled when fully mature, this 1970 Single Harvest Port is a true treasure for collectors, Port enthusiasts and connoisseurs.

At Taylor’s, only the most promising barrels from a single vintage are selected for their Single Harvest Ports. The wine is aged slowly and gently in old oak barrels where it develops its distinctive chestnut brown color, silky texture and complex aromatic profile. This method produces a concentrated and harmonious port where time, wood and craftsmanship merge in perfect balance.

1970 was an outstanding vintage in the Douro and this Very Old Port demonstrates how great Port can age with elegance, maintaining both freshness and intensity. It is a meditation wine to be enjoyed slowly – perfect with blue cheese, nut-based desserts or simply on its own in a large glass.

Tasting notes

Color: Deep chestnut brown with amber hues and beautiful viscosity in the glass.

Aroma: Delicate and complex with notes of walnuts, marzipan, black pepper and warm spices. An elegant oxidative character with layer upon layer of ripeness.

Flavor: Concentrated and rich, yet silky and rounded. Raisins, caramel and roasted nuts are balanced by a vibrant acidity that provides impressive freshness despite the wine’s advanced age.

Finish: Long, persistent and harmonious with a refined combination of sweetness, spice and ripe fruit.
