Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta 2016

Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta 2016 is one of the most elegant wines from the renowned Tuscan winery. The name Filo di Seta, which means “silk thread”, refers to a small stream that runs through the forest close to the vineyard. It is a beautiful image of the style of the wine – refined, silky and with an impressive finesse.

The wine is made from 100% Sangiovese from old clones planted by Sandro Chia in the 1980s. The vineyard is owned by Castello Romitorio and is located right in front of the famous Montosoli hill, considered one of the most prestigious terroirs in Brunello di Montalcino. The combination of altitude, soil and cool winds produces grapes with intense aromatics and great structure.

The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and carefully sorted before vinification begins. After fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately 30 months in French oak barrels. This is followed by a further 12 months of bottle aging in Castello Romitorio’s historic cellar. The long maturation produces a Brunello with great complexity, silky tannins and impressive balance.

Filo di Seta is a formidable glass of wine and a strong proof of Castello Romitorio’s high level. The wine shows both power and elegance and places the house among the most exciting producers in Montalcino. It is a wine that can be enjoyed now and develop beautifully in the cellar for many years.

History of the house – Castello Romitorio

Castello Romitorio was founded in 1984 by Italian artist Sandro Chia. He restored an old castle in Montalcino and created a winery where art and winemaking go hand in hand. The vision was to create Brunello wines with great respect for nature and the traditions of the area.

Today, the winery is led by Filippo Chia, son of Sandro Chia. Together with an experienced team, he continues to refine the wines from the hills of Montalcino. The castle and cellar also serve as a gallery for Sandro Chia’s artwork. The combination of art, terroir and craftsmanship makes Castello Romitorio one of the most exciting names in Brunello di Montalcino.
