Fonseca Vintage Port 2024 – A New Vintage from the Legendary Port House
Fonseca Vintage Port 2024 has just hit the market, and there’s good reason to be excited. After a seven-year wait, Fonseca is presenting its first classic Vintage Port since 2017. An impressive port from the Douro Valley with intense dark fruit, great concentration, and a fantastic balance between power and elegance.
The 2024 vintage showcases everything that has made Fonseca famous among port lovers worldwide. Here you’ll find a full-bodied and characterful Vintage Port with 20% alcohol, vibrant freshness, and impressive aging potential spanning many decades.
2024 – An Outstanding Vintage in the Douro
The 2024 growing season provided exceptionally good conditions in the Douro Valley. Winter rains ensured water for the vines, while a relatively mild summer gave the grapes time to ripen evenly.
The cooler nights leading up to harvest helped preserve the grapes’ freshness. The result was a vintage with concentrated fruit, beautiful tannins, and remarkable balance.
Fonseca Vintage Port 2024 is crafted from grapes grown on the house’s own estates, including Quinta do Panascal, Quinta do Cruzeiro, and Quinta de Santo António.
Traditional port with great aging potential
At Fonseca, they adhere to classic methods. The grapes are fermented in traditional granite vats, called lagares, where foot-treading helps extract color, aroma, and tannins.
This results in a Vintage Port with great depth and structure. At the same time, it preserves the intense fruitiness that is one of Fonseca’s most distinctive characteristics.
The new 2024 vintage can already be enjoyed for its youthful fruit and powerful character. But it’s also ideal for the wine cellar, where it can develop even greater complexity over many years.
Tasting Notes
Color: Intense dark purple with a beautiful violet rim that underscores the wine’s youth and concentration.
Aroma: A seductive bouquet of black currants, black cherries, and ripe blackberries. Delicate notes of violets, fresh mint, and subtle mineral undertones add extra elegance.
Palate: Full-bodied, intense, and juicy with concentrated dark fruit, spicy undertones, and firm, elegant tannins. The lively acidity creates a beautiful balance and gives the wine an impressive freshness.
Finish: Long and lingering with dark berries, delicate herbs, and a fresh, elegant finish.
A great port for both immediate enjoyment and cellaring
Fonseca Vintage Port 2024 is an ideal port for those who wish to follow the evolution of a great vintage. Enjoy it young for its intense fruit, or store it in the cellar and experience how it changes over time.
Serve it with strong blue-veined cheeses, dark chocolate, or a rich chocolate dessert. It also makes an excellent finale to a fine dinner.
