Glenfarclas Family Casks 2003 #1970 – Speyside Single Malt Whisky 55,9%

Glenfarclas Family Casks 2003 #1970 is a shining example of why the Family Casks range is one of the most coveted single cask bottlings in the whisky world. This is an uncompromising single malt, bottled at full cask strength of 55.9%, created for enthusiasts, collectors and those who want to experience Glenfarclas in its most honest and intense form.

The whisky was distilled in 2003 and bottled on July 27, 2022 after almost 19 years of maturation in a 4th fill butt (cask number 1970). The more subdued cask has allowed the character of the distillate to shine through, while the sherry cask adds elegance and balance. The result is a refined, deep and complex whisky where nothing overpowers – everything works together.

Only 593 bottles have been bottled, making this bottling a true limited edition. No chill filtration, no color additives – just pure Glenfarclas, straight from the cask and in its most authentic form.

Tasting notes

The nose offers delicate sherry, dried fruit and caramel, accompanied by fine spices and a light touch of nuts.

In the mouth, the whisky is rich and warm with notes of raisins, dark chocolate and roasted nuts, balanced by a pleasant sweetness and the natural power of alcohol.

The finish is long and persistent with a slight dryness, warm spices and an elegant finish that invites another sip.

The history of the house

:contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0} is one of Scotland’s most traditional and respected distilleries. It has been family owned since 1865 when John Grant bought the distillery for £511. Since then, six generations of the Grant family have carried on the craft with a rare consistency and respect for tradition.

The distillery is known for its use of direct-heated copper pot stills and a strong penchant for sherry-aged whiskies. The Family Casks range is the family’s own treasure chest – a collection of unique single casks, each telling their own story of time, patience and passion for real malt whisky.
