Montebello 1982 Cuvée Prestige 42% – Extraordinary aged rum from Guadeloupe

Montebello 1982 Cuvée Prestige is one of the rarest and most prestigious bottlings from Guadeloupe. This is a historic rum with a full 24 years of aging and a strength of 42%. It’s a bottle for collectors and serious rum lovers looking for something truly unique.

This cuvée is the oldest rum ever bottled from Montebello. This makes it a true curiosity in the world of rum. The bottling differs significantly from the house’s classic style as it consists of 80% sugarcane juice-based rum and 20% molasses-based rum. The combination creates an unusual depth and complexity.

Montebello 1982 Cuvée Prestige unites the best of rhum agricole and traditional rum. The fresh and elegant character of the sugar cane juice meets the darker and more intense profile of molasses. After 24 years in barrel, it is rounded, mature and impressively balanced.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Intense and deep with dark chocolate, ripe fruits and warm spices. Hints of vanilla and lightly toasted oak.

Taste: Complex and silky smooth. Natural sweetness from the sugar cane juice is balanced by the richness of molasses. Notes of cocoa, dried fruit, spice and a subtle hint of smoke.

Finish: Long and elegant. Vanilla, barrel spice and dark fruit linger with great finesse.

The story of Montebello

Montebello was founded in 1930 by the Dolomie family in the eastern part of Basse-Terre in Guadeloupe. The distillery started as a small family-run business. Over the years, it has survived both economic and historical challenges.

In the 1970s, Montebello began to grow significantly. Today, the distillery produces up to 500,000 liters of rum per year. The majority is sold on the French market. Production continues to be based on local raw materials and fresh sugar cane juice.

The rum is distilled on column stills and aged in a combination of bourbon, cognac and wine barrels. This creates the distinctive and complex style that has made Montebello recognized among rum connoisseurs.
