Niepoort 2019 Vintage Port – Powerful and age-worthy top vintage from Cima Corgo

Niepoort 2019 Vintage Port is a classic and structured Vintage from Douro’s prestigious Cima Corgo sub-region. Made from old vines between 80 and over 100 years old, this vintage delivers intense fruit, firm tannic structure and impressive ageing potential. It is Vintage Port in its most authentic and terroir-driven form.

The harvest began on September 2 and continued into October 2019. The grapes were 100% destemmed and traditionally foot trodden in shallow granite vats for optimal extraction. After fermentation, grape spirit was added and the wine rested over winter before being moved to cooler cellars in March 2020.

The final cuvée was placed in classic 550 liter barrels and aged for 2 years. In July 2021, the wine was bottled, ready for a long life in the cellar. This method ensures both concentration and balance between fruit, acidity and tannin.

Tasting notes

Color: Intense dark ruby with a violet edge.

Aroma: Fresh and deep with notes of black cherry, blackberry and violets. Spice and light minerality.

Flavor: Powerful and structured with dark fruit, pepper and firm tannins. The old vines add complexity and concentration.

Finish: Long and precise with fresh acidity and great ageing potential.

This Vintage Port can be enjoyed young for its fruity energy, but will develop significantly over the next several decades.

The House of Niepoort

Niepoort was founded in 1842 by Franciscus Marius Niepoort and has been family owned since. Today, the house is run by 5th generation Eduard Dirk Niepoort and Verona Niepoort. Eduard Dirk has been in charge since 2005 and works closely with the next generation to maintain the house style.

The Master Blender role has also been passed down through the generations. José Rodrigo, the 5th generation in his family, has been in charge of blending since 2006. The combination of tradition, innovation and respect for the Douro terroir makes Niepoort one of the most recognized producers in the region.
