The Glenturret 7 Years Peat Smoked Highland Single Malt 2025 Release 46
The Glenturret 7 Year Old Peat Smoked 2025 Release is an elegant and characterful Highland single malt whisky that showcases the distillery’s unique approach to peat smoke. It’s not about heavy medicinal smoke or massive intensity, but about balance, finesse and complexity. The result is an inviting whisky where soft peat smoke, fresh citrus, sweet vanilla and spicy oak notes merge in a harmonious expression.
This 2025 Release is created for whisky lovers who want to experience peat-smoked whisky in its more refined form. The combination of American oak casks, European casks and refill casks adds sweetness, structure and depth. The American oak adds vanilla and soft caramel, while the European oak adds spicy nuances and elegant complexity.
The whisky is fresh, lively and approachable, yet retains the depth and character that has made The Glenturret one of Scotland’s most respected single malt whisky producers. It’s a whisky that will excite both the seasoned enthusiast and those looking to explore smoked whisky for the first time.
Tasting notes
The aroma opens with soft peat smoke, vanilla and fresh citrus. This is followed by notes of ginger, nutmeg, sweet malt and light oak. A subtle maritime saltiness adds depth and elegance.
On the palate, vanilla, lemon zest and sweet malt are balanced by sea salt, spices and peat smoke. The smoke gradually emerges throughout the tasting experience without dominating. The finish is long, fresh and well-balanced with elegant notes of oak, citrus and gentle peat smoke.
The Glenturret 7 Year Peat Smoked is best enjoyed neat in a tulip-shaped glass. A few drops of water opens up the fruity and spicy nuances of the whisky. It also goes well with smoked fish, grilled chicken, charcuterie, firm cheeses and light chocolate.
The history of the house
The Glenturret is considered Scotland’s oldest working whisky distillery, dating back to 1763. The distillery originally began under the name Thurot Distillery and is believed to have produced spirits even before official registration. The name was later changed to Hosh Distillery before taking on the name that whisky lovers around the world know today in 1875.
Over the centuries, The Glenturret has maintained a strong respect for traditional craftsmanship. The distillery is known for its small production volumes and uncompromising focus on quality. Historian Alfred Barnard described the distillery as one of the most traditional in Scotland back in the 1880s.
Today, The Glenturret continues to work according to the “By Hand and Heart” philosophy. The distillery still uses artisanal methods that have largely disappeared elsewhere in Scotland. This includes an open mash tun that is stirred by hand, emphasizing the house’s dedication to authentic whisky production. The result is some of Highland’s most characterful and sought-after single malts.
