Yellow Chartreuse 43% – French herbal liqueur with a unique history and complex taste

Yellow Chartreuse 43% is one of the world’s most legendary herbal liqueurs. It is still made by the Carthusian monks according to a secret recipe that dates back to the early 1600s. The recipe contains 130 carefully selected herbs, plants and spices. The result is an elegant and complex liqueur with a character like no other.

The golden color and silky smooth texture make Yellow Chartreuse an exquisite experience in the glass. The taste is more rounded and smooth than the green version. Sweetness, spices and fresh herbal notes come together in a harmonious balance. The result is a liqueur that is both complex and pleasant to enjoy.

Chartreuse is still produced according to traditional methods in France. Only two monks know the full recipe. They select and blend the many herbs, which are then distilled and matured until the liqueur reaches its characteristic depth. This uncompromising approach to craftsmanship has made Chartreuse an iconic spirit among bartenders and spirits enthusiasts.

Yellow Chartreuse is perfect as an aperitif after a good meal. It can also be used in classic cocktails where its herbal complexity adds depth and elegance. Serve it slightly chilled or with a single ice cube to bring out the aromatic nuances.

For many, Chartreuse is not just a liqueur, but a spirit with history, mystery and character. Each bottle represents hundreds of years of tradition and a unique craftsmanship that is still kept alive by the monks of the Chartreuse order.

Tasting notes

  • Nose: Aromatic herbs, honey, flowers and slightly spicy citrus.
  • Taste: Soft and round with sweetness, warm spices and fresh herbal notes.
  • Finish: Long and elegant with herbal notes, mild sweetness and light spicy heat.

The story behind Chartreuse

The story of Chartreuse begins in 1605 when the Carthusian monks received a manuscript with the recipe for an “elixir of life”. Over the centuries, the monks refined the recipe and developed it into the Chartreuse we know today. Production is still done in strict secrecy, with only a few monks knowing the entire recipe.

Today, the liqueur is produced in Voiron, France and aged in large cellars where it slowly develops its character. Chartreuse has become an icon in the world of spirits and is used both in classic cocktails and as an elegant digestif.
