Banff 1975 #1028 Tantalus Duncan Taylor 49.4% – 38 years World Class Rare Single Malt
Banff 1975 #1028 Tantalus from Duncan Taylor is not just a whisky – it’s liquid history from a long-closed distillery. Distilled in 1975 and matured for a full 38 years, this exclusive single malt represents some of the rarest and most coveted in Scotch whisky. Only the most exceptional and well-matured casks are selected for Duncan Taylor’s prestigious Tantalus series – and this cask #1028 fully lives up to its reputation.
The Banff distillery closed in 1983, and the stock of genuine Banff single malt is now extremely limited. That’s why this bottling is an absolute collector’s item. After 38 years of patient aging, the cask was opened and the whisky was bottled in hand-blown crystal decanters. As an extraordinary detail, each decanter is accompanied by a “Tantalus” made of wood from the cask itself – a unique and exclusive craftsmanship that emphasizes the luxury level of the series.
At 49.4% alcohol, the whisky is naturally powerful, yet silky smooth and deeply integrated after nearly four decades of maturation. The color is a deep golden amber, and already in the glass you can sense the concentration and elegance that only extreme aging can create.
This is an investment for the serious whisky collector and an experience for the passionate connoisseur. A bottle that combines history, craftsmanship and rarity in one perfect presentation.
Tasting notes
Nose: Complex and ripe with notes of dried fruit, honey, polished oak and fine spices. Underlying notes of toffee, orange peel and light nuttiness.
Flavor: Silky and deep with layers of caramel, dark chocolate and ripe fruit. Elegant oak, spices and a slightly oily texture provide structure and balance.
Finish: Extremely long and sophisticated with warm spices, subtle sweetness and a dry, refined finish characterized by noble wood.
The story behind the house
Duncan Taylor & Co. is an independent Scottish bottler with roots dating back to 1938. The house is known for its uncompromising approach to cask selection and its impressive collection of rare and historic casks. The Tantalus range represents the pinnacle of their portfolio – only the most remarkable and long-aged whiskies are allowed to bear this name.
Founded in the 19th century in the Speyside region, the Banff distillery was known for its characterful style before it closed in 1983. Today, Banff is one of the most coveted ‘lost distilleries’ and each release is a piece of Scotch whisky history that can never be recreated.
