A.H. Riise XO Reserve Port Cask 45% – Superior Spirit Drink with depth and elegance

A.H. Riise XO Reserve Port Cask is an exclusive and characterful Superior Spirit Drink where the classic A.H. Riise virtues meet the rich sweetness and complexity of port wine casks. The result is an intense and silky spirit with a deep aroma and flavor that develops layer by layer in the glass. This bottling is created for the discerning consumer who wants a spirit with history, finesse and a clear signature.

Aging in port barrels gives this XO Reserve a darker, fruitier character where the warm notes from the barrel merge with tropical fruits and spicy undertones. The combination creates a balanced and full-bodied experience that can be enjoyed neat, at room temperature or as an exclusive finish to a great meal.

The color is deep amber with warm reddish reflections that reveal the influence of the port casks already in the glass. The aroma opens generously and enticingly, while the taste slowly unfolds to reveal the complexity that A.H. Riise is known for worldwide.

Tasting notes

Nose: Soft notes of vanilla meet yellow fruits like pineapple and banana. Under the surface, a drier layer of red fruits emerges with fine and elegant hints of port.

Taste: The tropical yellow fruits continue on the palate along with red fruit nuances that gain depth from the port casks. Notes of tobacco and cedar add structure and complexity.

Finish: Long, rich and harmonious finish with a slight dryness and an elegant chocolatey finish.

The story of A.H. Riise

A.H. Riise was a Danish pharmacist and entrepreneur who settled on the island of St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies in the 1800s. Here he developed a number of liquor recipes based on exotic ingredients, spices and botanicals from the Caribbean. His passion for nature was immense, and his extensive collection of plants, herbs and conch shells can be seen today at the Zoological Museum in Copenhagen and in museums in both Stockholm and Oslo.

Riise’s interest in science also led to several animal species being named after him. One example is Hylodes Riisei, also known as the Yellow Mottled Coqui – a mottled yellow frog that Riise and Lütken recorded on St. Thomas in 1863. Today, the species is unfortunately endangered due to the loss of its natural habitat.
