For over 300 years of tradition, sailors in the British Navy received their daily rum ration – a ‘tot’ – as a regular part of life at sea. When rations were abolished on July 31, 1970, the day became known as Black Tot Day. Demerara rum from Guyana formed the rich and powerful heart of the Royal Navy blend, and this style is continued in Black Tot Rare Old.

This rum is made from dark and rich molasses and distilled in Guyana – home to some of the world’s most distinctive rum distillates. The long maturation in quality casks over four decades has created a deep, concentrated and complex spirit where time, wood and raw material work in perfect harmony. The result is a weighty, structured and majestic Demerara rum, where every drop speaks of patience and craftsmanship.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Deep and complex with dark molasses, burnt caramel, raisins, dates and tobacco. Elegant notes of oak, cocoa and spices testify to the long barrel aging.

Flavor: Rich and concentrated with massive structure. Dark syrup, dried fruit, coffee, licorice and spicy oak. A dense and almost oily mouthfeel with impressive balance despite the strength.

Finish: Extremely long and persistent with warm spices, dark chocolate and dried fruit that slowly fades into elegant wood notes.
