Capitain-Gagnerot Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Moutottes 2023 – an exclusive Pinot Noir from Burgundy
Capitain-Gagnerot Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Moutottes 2023 is an impressive red wine from the heart of Burgundy. Here you’ll find a classic Premier Cru with dark fruit, elegant structure, and the distinctive finesse that makes Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune so sought-after.
The wine comes from the small Premier Cru vineyard Les Moutottes in Aloxe-Corton. It is made exclusively from Pinot Noir and aged for 13 months in French oak barrels. Only 10% of the barrels are new, allowing the fruit and the vineyard’s character to fully express themselves.
The 2023 vintage offers a beautiful combination of ripe fruit, freshness, and fine tannins. An exciting Burgundy for both special dinners and the wine cellar.
Les Moutottes – Premier Cru with Character
Les Moutottes is located in Aloxe-Corton in the northern part of the Côte de Beaune. The area is known for its distinctive Pinot Noir wines that combine power and elegance.
The vineyard’s soil consists of clay and limestone with traces of marl. This provides ideal conditions for Pinot Noir and contributes to the wine’s structure and mineral character.
Here, the grapes develop a concentrated fruit character that combines with Burgundy’s natural freshness. The result is a wine with both depth and finesse.
100% Pinot Noir and traditional winemaking
The grapes for Capitain-Gagnerot Les Moutottes are harvested by hand. After careful sorting, the stems are removed before the grapes are placed in open fermentation vats.
Fermentation lasts about 15 days. In the early stages, the grape skins are regularly worked to extract color, aroma, and tannins.
After fermentation, the wine is aged for 13 months in oak barrels, 10% of which are new. Barrel aging adds extra depth and rounds out the wine’s structure without overpowering the fruit.
Tasting Notes – dark berries and an elegant Burgundian character
Color: Beautiful ruby red with deep hues and a vibrant glow.
Aroma: Inviting aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries, and ripe cherries. Subtle hints of violets, spices, and a touch of oak add extra complexity.
Palate: Full-bodied and harmonious with dark berries, juicy cherries, and an elegant, spicy character. The tannins provide structure, while the fresh acidity keeps the wine lively.
Finish: Long and well-balanced with dark fruit, subtle spices, and a slightly mineral finish.
A Premier Cru with excellent aging potential
Capitain-Gagnerot Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Moutottes 2023 has both fruit concentration and structure to allow for further development.
When young, the wine displays its fresh fruit and lively character. With a few years of bottle aging, it can develop more mature nuances of forest floor, dried flowers, and spices.
It is therefore an appealing choice for wine lovers seeking a classic Burgundy with the potential to evolve over several years.
Perfect with game, beef, and aged cheeses
Les Moutottes is an excellent food pairing. The wine’s structure and fresh acidity make it particularly well-suited for dishes with good depth of flavor.
Try it with rosé-roasted beef, duck breast, venison, or other game dishes. It also pairs beautifully with mushrooms, braised meats, and ripe, soft cheeses.
Serve the wine at around 15–16 degrees. A brief aeration can be beneficial if the bottle is opened while the wine is still young.
