Dönnhoff Blanc de Blanc Brut Nature 2019 – Elegant bubbles from Nahe
Dönnhoff Blanc de Blanc Brut Nature 2019 is a refined and characterful sparkling wine from the renowned Weingut Dönnhoff winery in Nahe. Made exclusively from Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder), the wine is an elegant interpretation of classic top-class sparkling wine. The result is a wine of precision, finesse and impressive complexity.
The grapes are harvested by hand from carefully selected parcels and gently pressed as whole bunches. This method ensures a pure must and preserves the fine aromas of the grapes. The first fermentation takes place in large double barrels, giving the wine structure and depth. The wine then undergoes its second fermentation in the bottle using the classic method, also known as méthode champenoise.
The wine is then aged for 44 months on the lees in the cellar. This long maturation creates remarkable complexity and a fine, persistent mousse. Before release, the bottles are hand-shaken and disgorged, completing the process and ensuring a clean and elegant style.
The result is a sparkling wine with great precision and balance. It combines fresh fruit, crisp acidity and a subtle saline minerality that makes it both gastronomic and extremely elegant in the glass. It’s a wine that pairs perfectly with everything from oysters and shellfish to light fish dishes or simply as a luxurious glass in good company.
Tasting notes
The aroma offers fine notes of green apples, citrus and white flowers. There are also hints of brioche and lightly roasted nuts from the long ageing on the lees. The taste is fresh, clean and elegant with crisp acidity, ripe fruit and a nice mineral character. The bubbles are fine and persistent. The aftertaste is dry, precise and harmonious with a slightly salty minerality.
Weingut Dönnhoff – one of the great winemakers of the Nahes
Weingut Dönnhoff is one of Germany’s most respected wineries and is based in the Nahe region. The winery is currently run by Hermann Dönnhoff, who over the decades has built a reputation for wines of great purity, precision and terroir expression.
The estate has around 25 hectares of vineyards in some of the region’s best locations. Approximately 80% of the vineyards are planted with Riesling, while the rest is primarily Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris). Many of the vines have an impressive age of between 15 and 60 years, which adds to the depth and complexity of the wine.
