Ichiro’s Malt Double Distilleries 2021 – 53,5%

Ichiro’s Malt Double Distilleries 2021 is an ambitious and coveted collaboration between two of Japan’s most exciting distilleries: Chichibu and Mars Shinshu. This edition has been created to explore new possibilities in Japanese whisky and unite two unique terroirs in one harmonious bottling.

Chichibu Distillery started operations in 2008 and is known for its artisanal approach and unique microclimate around the Arakawa River. The wide temperature fluctuations in the area provide intense maturation and distinct character.

Mars Shinshu Distillery resumed distilling in 2011 and is beautifully surrounded by forest at the foot of Mt. Kisokoma in the Japanese Alps. The high altitude and cool climate allow for slow and elegant cask development.

Whiskies aged in these two different environments have been blended and expressed as two new personalities in one single bottling. The result is a complex and balanced Japanese whisky with both depth and finesse. A total of 10,200 bottles have been produced in this 2021 edition.

Tasting notes

Nose: Fresh and elegant with notes of ripe fruit, honey and light vanilla. Underlying spice and subtle oak.

Taste: Full-bodied and balanced. Combination of fruit, malt and fine spicy nuances. Harmonious interplay between sweetness and structure.

Aftertaste: Long and rounded. Lightly spicy oak, fruity notes and lasting elegance.

Ichiro Akuto is the creator of Chichibu and one of the most respected figures in modern Japanese whisky. The Double Distilleries series was created to bring together whiskies from Chichibu and Mars Shinshu in a shared vision.

The project symbolizes collaboration, innovation and respect for Japanese craftsmanship. The 2021 release is a powerful example of how two different climates and aging conditions can merge into one cohesive and characterful whisky.
