Glenfarclas 175th Anniversary – Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 43%

Glenfarclas 175th Anniversary is a very special anniversary release, created in 2011 to mark 175 years since the distillery officially began producing whisky. To celebrate this historic milestone, Glenfarclas has put together a unique bottling that captures the essence of the distillery’s style and history in one bottle.

This whisky is a blend of 18 carefully selected casks, with three casks from each of the last six decades included in the blend. The youngest casks date back to 2000, while the oldest cask in the blend was distilled way back in 1952. The average age is just over 30 years, giving a depth and complexity that only long ageing can create.

Although the average age is similar to Glenfarclas 30 year old, this bottling is something else entirely. The older casks from the 1950s and 1960s contribute powerful, deep and classic sherry notes, while the younger casks add freshness, fruitiness and elegance. The interplay between the generations of whisky creates an impressive balance between heaviness, sweetness, spice and fruit.

The result is a whisky of great complexity and character – a true tribute to Glenfarclas’ tradition of sherry cask matured Highland Single Malt. With a production of around 6,000 bottles, this is a rare and unique bottling that will never be repeated.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Rich and complex with dark raisins, dried fruits, orange peel, honey and deep sherry character.
• Palate: Rich and layered with notes of dark caramel, nuts, spices and ripe fruits, balanced by elegant oak.
• Finish: Long and warming with classic sherry notes, light spicy oak and lingering fruit sweetness.

The history of the house

Glenfarclas Distillery was officially established in 1836 and has been owned by the Grant family since 1865. The distillery is one of the few remaining family-owned distilleries in Scotland and is known for its traditional methods and aging in Spanish sherry casks. Glenfarclas has built a reputation over generations for deep, rich and age-worthy whiskies, and the 175th Anniversary Bottling is a celebration of nearly two centuries of craftsmanship, history and dedication to classic Scotch whisky production.
