Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10-Year-Old Sherry Cask Matured Islay Single Malt 46%

Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10 Year Old is an intense and elegant Islay Single Malt for those who love the combination of Oloroso sherry and classic peat smoke. Here, Kilchoman’s fresh, citrus-forward distillate is aged for a full 10 years in sherry casks. The result is a whiskey with dark fruit, chocolate, spices, and deep Islay smoke.

Loch Gorm is Kilchoman’s annual sherry-matured Limited Edition. The name comes from Loch Gorm, Islay’s largest freshwater lake, located near the distillery. The lake’s dark, peat-colored water perfectly complements the whisky’s deep copper color and powerful character.

10 years in Oloroso sherry casks

The 2026 edition of Kilchoman Loch Gorm has been matured in Oloroso sherry butts for at least 10 years. The casks come from Bodega José y Miguel Martín in Jerez and play a crucial role in shaping the whisky’s style.

For this edition, Kilchoman has selected 23 Oloroso sherry casks. A full 20 are first-fill, while 3 are refill. The many first-fill casks impart great intensity with dark fruit, spices, and a pronounced sherry character. The refill casks contribute balance and allow Kilchoman’s own distillate to shine through.

The whisky is peated to approximately 50 ppm. The pronounced peaty smoke complements the sweet Oloroso character beautifully. At the same time, fresh citrus and fruit ensure that Loch Gorm does not become heavy or overpowered by sherry.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dark and dried red fruits meet toasted walnuts and powerful peaty smoke. There’s also an intriguing smoky and slightly meaty character that adds extra depth to the nose.

Taste: Full-bodied and concentrated, with candied orange, tropical fruit, and dried plums. Salted caramel provides sweetness, while cinnamon and nutmeg add warm spices. The rich peat smoke is beautifully integrated throughout the palate.

Finish: Long and intense with dark chocolate, licorice, and warm spices. The peaty smoke lingers, providing a beautiful, lingering Islay finish.

Kilchoman Distillery – Islay’s farm distillery

Kilchoman Distillery was founded by Anthony Wills in 2005 at Rockside Farm on Islay. The vision was to revive the tradition of small farm distilleries and create whisky with a strong connection between ingredients, craftsmanship, and Islay’s unique natural environment.

The Wills family continues to run Kilchoman. Over the years, the distillery has built a strong reputation for its fruity and peaty whiskies. At the same time, the use of carefully selected, high-quality casks has become increasingly important.

Loch Gorm showcases the darker, sherry-influenced side of Kilchoman. After 10 years of maturation, the Oloroso casks have had time to develop great depth, while the distillery’s citrus notes and peaty smoke still come through clearly. This makes Loch Gorm 10 Year Old an ideal choice for both Kilchoman enthusiasts and lovers of sherry-matured Islay whiskey.
