Kilchoman Small Batch Release 2023 – Islay Single Malt Whisky 48,7%

Kilchoman Small Batch Release 2023 is an intense and characterful Islay single malt in a very limited edition – only 2,520 bottles in total. This is an uncompromising small batch release where classic bourbon and sherry matured Kilchoman meets powerful STR red wine casks in an exciting and modern interpretation of Islay whisky.

This vatting consists of 75% bourbon casks, 5% oloroso sherry casks and 20% STR (shaved, toasted, re-charred red wine) casks. The combination produces a deep and complex whisky where Kilchoman’s maritime peat smoke and fresh citrus profile is lifted by red fruit notes, spicy sweetness and creamy vanilla. The STR casks add structure, color, and extra layers of character that make this small batch truly special.

Bottled at 48.7%, the whisky offers both intensity and balance – perfect for the experienced Islay lover who wants something out of the ordinary.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Fresh citrus, peat smoke and vanilla from the bourbon casks, complemented by red berries, light spice and subtle sherry sweetness.

Flavor: Full-bodied and structured with classic Kilchoman smoke, ripe citrus, red fruit, cinnamon sweetness and fresh vanilla. A nice balance of sweetness, spice and smoke.

Finish: Long and persistent with peat smoke, light red wine notes and warm oak.

Kilchoman Distillery – Islay’s Farm Distillery

Kilchoman Distillery was established in 2005 at Rockside Farm on Islay and is known as Islay’s Farm Distillery. It produces whisky from field to bottle using locally grown barley, locally cut peat and ageing on the island itself. Working without coloring or chill filtration, Kilchoman has built a reputation for authentic, terroir-driven Islay whisky with distinct character.

The Small Batch series showcases the distillery’s ability to experiment with cask types and blends while retaining the classic Islay identity.
