Kilkerran 12 Year Old Campbeltown Single Malt Whisky 46% – 2021 Edition

Kilkerran 12 Year Old Campbeltown Single Malt Whisky 46% (bottled 25/10/2021) is the epitome of classic craftsmanship from one of Scotland’s most traditional whisky regions. Distilled at Glengyle Distillery and produced with deep respect for Campbeltown’s proud heritage, this 12 year old single malt delivers character, balance and authenticity.

This whisky is bottled at 46%, not chill-filtered and with no added color. This means maximum flavor, natural structure and an honest representation of the distillery’s style. Kilkerran 12 year is known for its perfect balance of fruit, malt, light smoke and maritime notes – a style that has made Campbeltown famous among connoisseurs.

The whisky is aged primarily in bourbon and sherry casks, creating a beautiful combination of sweetness, spice and dryness. The result is a complex but highly drinkable single malt that appeals to both the seasoned enthusiast and the curious connoisseur.

Tasting notes

Nose: Fresh and vibrant with notes of citrus, green apple and vanilla. Underlying notes of malt, light smoke and a hint of sea breeze.

Taste: Creamy and well-balanced with sweet malt, caramel and dried fruit. Lightly spicy oak and subtle peat smoke add depth and structure.

Finish: Medium to long with elegant dryness, lightly salted character and gentle smoke that rounds out the experience in classic Campbeltown fashion.

The story behind the house

Kilkerran is produced at the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, owned by Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd. The name Kilkerran derives from the Gaelic “Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain”, which refers to the original settlement where Saint Kieran had his religious cell – the site where Campbeltown later grew.

The Glengyle distillery was originally founded in 1872, but closed in 1925. In 2000, Hedley Wright – also the owner of Springbank – managed to revive the distillery. After four years of restoration and collecting equipment from Craigellachie and the closed Ben Wyvis distillery, among others, production resumed. With the name Glengyle already registered for a blended whisky, the name Kilkerran was chosen for the single malt – a name that today stands as a symbol of Campbeltown’s rebirth.
