A cool and damp spring was followed by warm summer months, with showers at the end of July ensuring perfect ripening without stress on the vines. In September, controlled rain showers created ideal conditions for the development of Botrytis cinerea – the noble rot that concentrates sugar, acid and aroma.

Five exceptional harvest days in October made it possible to pick the grapes precisely at their optimal ripeness. The result is a wine with impressive concentration, refined acidity and the characteristic Yquem elegance that can evolve for decades.

History of the house – Château d’Yquem

Château d’Yquem dates back to the 16th century and is located in the heart of Sauternes in Bordeaux. In 1855, the château was the only one to be honored with the Premier Cru Supérieur classification – a status that still stands unchanged. Only the most perfect botrytis-affected grapes are used and the selection is extreme. This means low yields – but a quality that sets the global standard year after year.
