Château Lynch-Bages 5th Cru Classé Pauillac 2016 – Power, classic Pauillac and iconic ageing wine

Château Lynch-Bages 2016 is one of the most sought-after wines from Pauillac and a shining example of why this 5ème Cru Classé château has achieved cult status among Bordeaux lovers. Here you get classic Médoc with structure, depth and an impressive ageing capacity.

Lynch-Bages has been owned by the Cazes family since 1973. Jean-Michel Cazes elevated the château to international fame and today the legacy is carried on by his son Jean-Charles Cazes. The combination of tradition, investment and uncompromising quality has made Lynch-Bages one of the most stable and respected names in Pauillac.

The vineyards extend over 90 hectares on a high plateau west of Pauillac town, in the village of Bages. The subsoil consists of deep gravel deposits over limestone – ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. The planting is dominated by 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by 15% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Fermentation is temperature-controlled with intensive remontage for maximum color and extraction. The wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new. This gives structure, complexity and a beautifully integrated barrel.

the 2016 vintage is among the greatest in recent times in Bordeaux. The wine is already impressive, but will develop majestically over the next 20-30 years. A classic Pauillac for the cellar – or for the big dinner.

About Château Lynch-Bages – The strength of the Cazes family and Pauillac

Classified as a 5th Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, Château Lynch-Bages is today considered one of the strongest châteaux in Pauillac in terms of quality. The château has always had a special following, especially in England.

The Cazes family has invested heavily in both the vineyards and cellar. The combination of prime location, modern vinification and classic Pauillac terroir has created a wine with both power and elegance. As Oz Clarke has said: “Impressive after five years, beautiful after ten and irresistible after twenty.” the 2016 vintage fully lives up to that description.
