Ornellaia “La Determinazione” 2022 is one of the world’s most iconic Super Tuscans and a true masterpiece from Bolgheri. The wine is crafted from a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are harvested individually and vinified separately to preserve each parcel’s unique character. The final cuvée is then blended with great care before the wine is aged in French oak barrels. This results in a complex and harmonious wine where fruit, oak, and structure blend together perfectly.

Ornellaia remains one of the most prestigious of the original Super Tuscans and is a benchmark among the world’s greatest red wines. The 2022 vintage has received a full 99 points from James Suckling as well as 98 points from both Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator, underscoring the wine’s exceptional quality.

Tasting Notes

The color is deep ruby red with an almost black core. The nose opens with intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe cherries, accompanied by violet, cedar, graphite, dark chocolate, espresso, and sweet spices. The palate is concentrated and silky smooth, with an impressive balance between freshness and power. The ripe tannins provide an elegant structure, while the long finish offers notes of dark berries, tobacco, vanilla, and mineral nuances.

Serve the wine at 15–17 °C, preferably after an hour of decanting. It is an excellent pairing for grilled steak, beef, veal, lamb, game, and other hearty meat dishes.

The Estate’s History

Tenuta dell’Ornellaia was founded in 1981 in Bolgheri on the west coast of Tuscany and has since established itself as one of Italy’s most renowned wineries.
