Torabhaig Distillers’ Series Iona’s First Edition is a truly special single malt whiskey from the Isle of Skye. A powerful and exciting expression where dark chocolate, creamy vanilla, and warm spices come together in an intense flavor experience.

This Limited Edition was created by distiller Iona Macphie, who was given the freedom to develop her very own whisky. The result is an extraordinary release from Torabhaig, bottled at an impressive 60.9% ABV. Only 5,250 bottles have been produced worldwide.

A unique whiskey made with chocolate malt

What makes Iona’s First Edition truly special is the use of 10% chocolate malt. This dark-roasted malt gives the whiskey a deep and intriguing character with delicious notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, and roasted malt.

Unlike Torabhaig’s typically smoky whiskies, this edition is produced entirely without peat. This allows for a richer, more dessert-like flavor profile.

The whiskey has been matured in first-fill bourbon casks and used sherry butts. The bourbon casks add vanilla and sweetness, while the sherry casks contribute dark fruits, spices, and extra body.

It is bottled at cask strength of 60.9%, without chill filtration and without added color.

Tasting Notes – Intense chocolate, caramel, and spices

Aroma: An inviting aroma of dark chocolate, cocoa butter, and creamy vanilla. Fresh citrus notes and a hint of tropical fruit provide a lovely balance to the toasted malt.

Taste: Full-bodied, warm, and intense with delicious notes of caramel, toffee, and dark raisins. Red berries, toasted oak tones, and a hint of peppermint add extra vibrancy to the flavor.

Finish: Long and powerful with ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper. The soft vanilla sweetness returns, providing a lovely rounding off.

The Torabhaig Distillers’ Series was created to give the distillery’s own employees the opportunity to experiment with whisky production.

Iona Macphie drew inspiration from her hikes through the dramatic landscape of the Isle of Skye. There, she enjoys sipping a glass of whiskey paired with dark chocolate. It was precisely this combination that served as the starting point for her personal bottling.

Torabhaig – Innovation and Whisky Tradition on the Isle of Skye

Torabhaig Distillery is located on the Sleat Peninsula on the Scottish island of Skye. The distillery began production in 2017 and became the island’s second whiskey distillery after Talisker.

The distillery is housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century farmhouse. Here, traditional production methods are combined with a curious and experimental approach to whisky.
