Torabhaig Distillers’ Series Niall’s First Edition is a wonderfully exciting Single Malt Whisky from the Isle of Skye. Here, juicy tropical fruit, soft peaty smoke, and a hint of sea salt come together in a powerful and vibrant whisky experience.

This Limited Edition was created by distiller Niall Culbertson, who was given the opportunity to develop his very own whisky. The result is a personal and characterful bottling where the rugged nature of the Isle of Skye meets the sweetness of rum casks.

The whisky is bottled at cask strength of 59.3%, and only 5,250 bottles have been produced worldwide.

Rum casks, bourbon, and a special malt blend

Niall has chosen an exciting combination of 90% lightly peated malt, 5% Brown Malt, and 5% Dark Crystal Malt. This gives the whiskey a beautiful depth with notes of sweetness, malt character, and elegant smoke.

The whisky was matured in first-fill bourbon casks and used rum casks. The bourbon casks contribute notes of vanilla, oak, and soft caramel. The rum casks add extra fruit sweetness and enhance the whisky’s exotic character.

This is a whiskey with a distinct personality. The high alcohol content provides plenty of intensity, while the delicate balance between fruit, smoke, and maritime notes makes it surprisingly harmonious.

The whiskey is neither chill-filtered nor colored.

Tasting Notes – Tropical fruit, sea salt, and soft peat smoke

Aroma: An inviting aroma of ripe pineapple, guava, and sweet vanilla. Subtle notes of golden syrup, toasted oak, and light campfire smoke add extra depth.

Taste: Full-bodied and intense with juicy orange, sweet tropical fruit, and creamy vanilla. Crispy malt cookies and a hint of sea salt provide an exciting contrast to the fruity sweetness.

Finish: Long and warm with spices, soft peaty smoke, and a slightly salty character. Sweet vanilla and subtle toasted notes linger for a long time.

Only 5,250 bottles—inspired by the sea around Skye

Behind this special whisky is Niall Culbertson, who grew up near Torabhaig. His father was a fisherman, and even as a child, Niall experienced the island’s dramatic coastline from the sea.

It is precisely these memories that have inspired him to create a whiskey with freshness, sea air, and tropical fruit. A whiskey that both tells the story of his upbringing and showcases his personal approach to distillation.

Torabhaig – Whisky Tradition and Innovation on the Isle of Skye

Torabhaig Distillery is located on the Sleat Peninsula on the Scottish island of Skye. The distillery began production in 2017, becoming the island’s second whisky distillery after Talisker.

Production takes place in a beautifully restored 19th-century farmhouse. Here, classic Scottish whisky craftsmanship is combined with modern ideas and a deep respect for the raw ingredients.

Torabhaig is known for its “Smoke with Taste” philosophy, in which peat smoke is meant to add character without dominating the flavor.
