Bertani Ripasso Valpolicella 2021 – Classic Ripasso with finesse, depth and Italian soul

Bertani Ripasso Valpolicella 2021 is the epitome of elegant northern Italian red wine. A wine that balances intensity and lightness in an exemplary way – and shows why the Ripasso style from Valpolicella remains one of the most sought-after wines in Italy.

Here you get a wine with depth and character, but without heaviness. A Ripasso created for both everyday enjoyment and fine dining, where quality, drinking pleasure and authenticity are at the center. Perfect for those looking for Italian red wine, Ripasso Valpolicella, Bertani wine and classic Veneto style in high quality.

The wine is based on the Corvina grape and made using the traditional Ripasso method, where the base wine is re-fermented on the pomace from the house’s Amarone production. This process adds richness, complexity and structure – but always with Bertani’s characteristic elegance and freshness.

Style and expression of the wine

Bertani Ripasso Valpolicella differs significantly from many modern, heavy Ripasso wines. Here the focus is on balance, pure fruit and terroir – not excessive sweetness or barrel. The result is a wine with silky smooth texture, vibrant acidity and great gastronomic versatility.

The vineyards are located in the Valpantena Valley north of Verona, an area known for cool nights and chalky soils that give the wines finesse, freshness and a clear origin.

Serving temperature: 16-18°C.

History of the house

Founded in 1857 by brothers Gaetano and Giovan Battista Bertani, Bertani is today one of Valpolicella’s most historic and respected wineries.

Gaetano Bertani brought inspiration from Burgundy to Veneto and was among the pioneers of dry, elegant Italian wine at a time when sweetness dominated the market. The house quickly became known for wines of longevity, precision and aristocratic style.

To this day, Bertani still uses manual methods, including traditional drying of grapes on bamboo trays – without artificial air conditioning. The philosophy remains unchanged: respect for the grape, the terroir and time. Bertani is not just a producer – it is an institution in Italian wine.
