Château Lascombes 2nd Cru Classé Margaux 2010 – classic Bordeaux with power, elegance and great ageability

Château Lascombes 2010 is Margaux at its most compelling: deep, aristocratic and irresistibly harmonious. As a 2nd Cru Classé from the famous 1855 classification, Lascombes delivers a wine that combines intense fruit, polished structure and the iconic Margaux finesse. The 2010 vintage is considered one of the greats of Bordeaux – a wine that can be enjoyed now (with a little air) and cellared for many years to come.

In the glass, the wine appears dark ruby with a deep core. The nose opens with ripe dark berries like blackcurrant and blackberry, often accompanied by floral notes (dried roses and violets), cedar, pencil shavings, cocoa and subtle spices. The palate is concentrated and layered, with silky but pronounced tannins and a freshness that keeps the wine lean and vibrant. The aftertaste is long, complex and elegant – just like a great Margaux should be.

Château Lascombes 2010 is ideal with beef, lamb, game and dishes with mushrooms, truffles or a good red wine sauce. Serve at 16-18°C and give it time in the decanter to bring out all the nuances.

The house behind the wine

Château Lascombes is a remarkable estate in Bordeaux, with a history dating back to 1625. With around 118 hectares of vineyards – the majority in the Margaux appellation and a smaller part in Haut-Médoc – Lascombes is one of the largest estates in Médoc. The chateau has enjoyed great success in export markets over the years, especially in the United States, where Bordeaux connoisseur Alexis Lichine took charge in 1952 with the support of American investors. Under his leadership, the vineyards were significantly expanded, production restructured and quality improved. After the change of ownership in 2001, new American owners initiated an extensive renovation and restructuring with the goal of maintaining and refining the château’s 2nd Cru Classé level – one of the most prestigious titles in Bordeaux.
