Château Lynch-Bages 5th Cru Pauillac 2020

Château Lynch-Bages 5. Cru Pauillac 2020 is one of the most sought-after wines from Pauillac in Bordeaux. It is known for its power, depth and classic structure. At the same time, it delivers the characteristic elegance that makes Pauillac one of the world’s most famous wine regions. Lynch-Bages is a wine that impresses both young Bordeaux lovers and collectors who appreciate wine with great ageing potential.

Château Lynch-Bages is classified as 5th Cru Classé in the historic Bordeaux classification of 1855. The château is one of the most famous properties in the Médoc. Since 1973, the property has been owned by Jean-Michel Cazes. Today, the château is run by his son Jean-Charles Cazes. The family has elevated Lynch-Bages to one of the most respected producers in Pauillac.

The vineyards are located on a plateau west of the town of Pauillac in the village of Bages. Here, around 90 hectares of vineyards spread over deep gravel layers with limestone underneath. This soil type is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. It produces wines with structure, concentration and great ageing potential. The grapes consist primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Temperature-controlled fermentation is used during vinification. Intensive remontage is used to extract color, aroma and structure. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to oak barrels. Around 60% are new barrels. Here the wine ages for about 15 months. This aging adds complexity, depth and classic Bordeaux character.

Lynch-Bages is known for its impressive balance between power and elegance. The wine can be surprisingly approachable in its youth. With age, it develops a rich and complex bouquet. Notes of blackcurrant, cedar and classic cigar box notes stand out. British wine expert Oz Clarke describes the wine this way: impressive after five years, beautiful after ten and irresistible after twenty.
