This Highland Park Distillery 2006 from Duncan Taylor – The Octave is an exclusive single malt that not only retains the classic Orkney signature, it’s enhanced by a special small cask that leaves a distinctive and elegant mark.

The whisky is first matured for 13 years in cask and then given a full 9-month finish in an Octave cask. An Octave cask only holds about 50 liters, which is why it creates an intense encounter between spirit and wood. Not all malts can carry such a powerful cask impression – but when a whisky can, the magic happens. And this is exactly the kind of bottle where balance, character and complexity come together.

The Octave cask is built from used sherry casks from Spain, adding depth, fruit and spice without overpowering the distillery’s own DNA. The bottling is bottled at 54.1% for an intense and concentrated experience – ideal both neat and with a few drops of water to open up even more layers.

Tasting notes

  • Nose: Salty sea breeze, light smoke, dried fruits, sherry notes and a hint of spice.
