14 years in ex-bourbon barrels

This release has been aged for 14 years in ex-bourbon barrels. The bourbon barrels complement Kilchoman’s own distillate and highlight its fruity and smoky style rather than overpowering it.

The long maturation adds creamy vanilla, caramel, and ripe fruits. Citrus and sweet malt provide freshness, while oak and spices create extra complexity. The characteristic Islay smoke runs like a clear thread through the whisky.

At 50.9%, the whiskey has beautiful intensity and structure. The alcohol content enhances the aromas and provides a long-lasting taste experience, while the 14 years of aging have rounded out the whiskey.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Elegant peat smoke with vanilla, lemon, and ripe fruit. Sweet malt and caramel develop alongside light spices and subtle maritime notes.

Taste: Full-bodied and complex with creamy vanilla, citrus, and sweet malt. Ripe fruit and caramel are followed by black pepper, oak, and a wave of warm peat smoke.

Finish: Long and balanced with vanilla, citrus, and spicy oak. The peaty smoke lingers along with a pleasant sweetness and a slightly salty, maritime character.

Kilchoman Family Collection

The Family Collection is crafted from specially selected casks from Kilchoman’s warehouses on Islay. The series offers whisky enthusiasts the opportunity to experience some of the older whiskies from this relatively young distillery.

The first Family Collection consists of four expressions aged 11, 14, 18, and 20 years, respectively. The different ages and cask types demonstrate how Kilchoman’s fruit, malt, and characteristic peaty smoke develop over extended periods of maturation.

Kilchoman Distillery – the family-owned distillery on Islay

Kilchoman Distillery was founded by Anthony Wills in 2005 at Rockside Farm on Islay. The vision was to revive the tradition of small farm distilleries and create whisky with a strong connection to the island, the raw ingredients, and traditional craftsmanship.

Kilchoman is still run by the Wills family and has grown into one of Islay’s most renowned independent distilleries. After more than two decades, some of the oldest casks are now beginning to show just how beautifully Kilchoman’s spirit develops over time.
