Kilchoman Rockside 11 Year Old is an exciting Islay Single Malt in which Kilchoman truly showcases the connection between the land, the barley, and the whisky. The barley is grown at Rockside Farm on Islay, and the whisky is crafted with a focus on the distillery’s signature combination of fruit, malt, and elegant peaty smoke.

With 11 years of aging, the whisky has gained extra depth and maturity without losing the fresh and lively Kilchoman style. It is aged in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and Oloroso sherry casks. The bourbon casks contribute vanilla, citrus, and sweetness, while the Oloroso casks add spices, nuts, and greater complexity.

The barley is peated to around 20 ppm. This results in a more subdued and elegant smoky profile, allowing the fruit and sweet malt to shine. The result is a beautifully balanced whisky for both Kilchoman enthusiasts and whisky lovers who prefer Islay with finesse over heavy peat smoke.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh citrus, orange peel, and sweet malt mingle with honey, vanilla, and tropical fruits. In the background, an elegant maritime peat smoke emerges.

Taste: Full-bodied and harmonious with ripe fruit, citrus, vanilla, and sweet malt. This is followed by salted caramel, light spices, and a pleasant smokiness that ties the flavors together beautifully.

Finish: Long and rounded with citrus, caramel sweetness, nuts, spices, and a lingering, elegant Islay smoke.

Kilchoman Distillery – From Field to Bottle

Kilchoman Distillery was founded by Anthony Wills in 2005 at Rockside Farm on the northwest side of Islay. The goal was to revive the tradition of a true farm distillery, where the connection between the raw ingredients, the landscape, and the finished whisky takes center stage.

Kilchoman grows some of its own barley in the fields surrounding the distillery and carries out an unusually large portion of its production on the farm. The Wills family continues to run Kilchoman, which has now gained international recognition for its distinctive and modern Islay Single Malts.

Kilchoman Rockside 11 Years is a fine example of this philosophy. A mature and complex Islay whisky where fruit, malt, oak, and peat smoke come together in an elegant harmony.
