For more than 25 years, the whisky has slowly matured in the distillery’s warehouses, where the casks have quietly breathed in the salty North Sea air. Here, time has been allowed to work at its own pace as the character of the whisky slowly evolved – just like the waves that rhythmically lap the shore of Wick’s historic harbor.

Matured in American and Spanish oak

This exclusive single malt is first matured in American oak casks, giving the whisky soft vanilla notes, warm spices and an elegant sweetness. Later, the maturation is completed in Spanish oak casks, adding extra depth, darker fruit notes and a rich color.

The combination of the two cask types creates a whisky with a beautiful balance of freshness, spice and ripe fruit. The maritime character that Old Pulteney is known for is still evident – but now accompanied by an impressive complexity and roundness that only years of maturation can provide.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Elegant and complex with notes of honey, ripe apples, dried fruit, orange peel and light spices. A subtle hint of sea breeze and oak add depth.

Taste: Rich and silky with layers of caramel, dark fruit, spicy oak, vanilla and a subtle salty nuance that hints at the distillery’s maritime origins.

Finish: Very long and refined with warm spices, dried fruit and an elegant balance of sweetness and salty minerality.

Old Pulteney Distillery was founded in 1826 in the northern Highland port town of Wick. For many years the town was the center of Europe’s largest herring fishery and the distillery became a natural part of the area’s maritime culture.
