Provolo Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva DOCG 2003
Provolo Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva DOCG 2003 is not just a great Amarone – it is a rare masterpiece from the heart of Valpolicella. Created in limited quantities and only in the very best vintages, this Riserva represents the essence of more than a century of wine tradition, passion and uncompromising craftsmanship at Cantina Provolo.
The 2003 vintage provided optimal conditions for both grape ripening and the traditional appassimento method, where the grapes are dried after harvest to concentrate flavor, aroma and structure. Only grapes from the vineyard’s oldest vines are selected for this prestigious wine. The low yields ensure exceptional concentration and quality, which is then refined through an extraordinary aging process.
After a slow fermentation, the wine matures in wooden barrels for a full twelve years, followed by five years of bottle aging. This impressive patience creates an Amarone with enormous depth, complexity and ageing potential. The result is a wine that combines power and elegance in a way that only the greatest Amarones can.
For wine lovers and collectors, Provolo Amarone Riserva 2003 is an extraordinary experience. A wine that tells the story of Valpolicella’s greatness and Cantina Provolo’s dedication to perfection in every bottle.
Tasting notes
The nose is intense and complex with notes of ripe red fruits, dried cherries, plums and raisins. This is followed by elegant nuances of licorice, exotic spices, cocoa, dark chocolate and subtle notes of toasted oak.
In the mouth, the wine is rich, concentrated and silky with impressive depth. The palate offers layers of ripe red fruits, dried fruit, spices, dark chocolate and fine balsamic notes. The ripe tannins and well-integrated alcohol create a harmonious balance for a long and persistent finish.
The finish is warm, complex and almost endless with notes of cocoa, spices, licorice and elegant oak.
Serving and food
This Amarone Riserva is so complex and nuanced that it can easily be enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine. It is also an excellent companion for mature cheeses, truffle dishes, braised beef, game or as an exclusive end to a large meal.
Serve at 18-20°C and should be decanted well before serving to open up all the wine’s many layers of aroma and flavor.
