Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2022 – 50th Anniversary Edition

Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs 2022 is an iconic Californian red wine and a special anniversary edition marking 50 years of this legendary cuvée. This is one of the most recognized Zinfandel-based wines from the USA. The wine comes from Lytton Springs Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, where Ridge has been making wine since 1972.

The blend consists of approximately 70% Zinfandel complemented by Petite Sirah, Carignane and Mataro. The combination produces a wine with power, structure and complexity. All grapes are grown sustainably and fermented with natural yeast. This ensures an authentic and terroir-driven expression.

After fermentation, the wine is aged for 16 months in American oak barrels. Only 17% of the barrels are new, providing balance between fruit and barrel. The result is a wine with depth, finesse and great integration.

In the glass, the wine is dark and intense. The nose is rich and complex with notes of ripe blackberry and blood orange. There are also nuances of pepper, licorice, tobacco leaf and dried flowers. It is an aromatic wine with many layers.

The taste is rich and concentrated. The fruit is dark and juicy. The spicy and floral notes recur. The tannins are well-integrated and provide structure. The aftertaste is long and persistent. It’s a wine where everything plays and the balance is impressive.

The history of the house

Ridge Vineyards is one of the most iconic producers in California. It was founded in 1885 by Osea Perrone. Modern success came with Paul Draper, who elevated the quality significantly and put Ridge on the world map.

Monte Bello became world famous at the Paris tasting in 1976. Today, the house is run by winemaker Eric Baugher. He continues the traditions with great success. Ridge works with organic methods and a focus on terroir. The result is wines with character, depth and authenticity.
