Sangenís I Vaqué Clos Monlleó
Priorat, Spain 2012
– The Powerful Soul of Priorat in a Bottle
Experience the magic of Priorat with Clos Monlleó 2012 – an exclusive red wine from the iconic Sangenís I Vaqué estate in Porrera, Priorat (Spain). This wine is truly special: a concentrated expression of old vines, slate soils, and passionate craftsmanship. Made from 50% Carignan and 50% Grenache, both from vines over 50 years old, and aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels (Allier). The result is a wine of depth, elegance, and power. Clos Monlleó is a wine for true connoisseurs – unfiltered, unfined, and produced in only 2,000–4,000 bottles per vintage. A rare gem that is sure to impress both in the cellar and in the glass.
Tasting Notes:
Color: Deep, dense ruby red with garnet hues at the rim.
Nose: Intense and complex bouquet with notes of ripe dark berries, licorice, dried fruit, slate-driven minerality, and elegant touches of vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee from the barrel aging.
Palate: Full-bodied and structured with silky tannins, deep fruit sweetness, and a long, spicy finish. Balanced and layered with flavor – a wine that evolves beautifully in the glass.
Food Pairing: Perfect with grilled meats, braised dishes, strong cheeses, or simply to be savored slowly in good company.
Sangenís I Vaqué – Tradition and Heart in Every Bottle
The story of Sangenís I Vaqué begins in 1978, when Pere Sangenís and Conxita Vaqué decided to replant the family’s historic vineyards in Porrera – at the very heart of Priorat. But the roots of the estate run even deeper: Conxita’s grandfather, Josep Simó, began producing and selling wine as early as 1886 from the house on Plaça Catalunya, where the wines are still made today. Today, the winery is run with the same dedication by the next generation – daughters Maria and Núria, who, together with their father, carry on the legacy with deep respect for the land and a love for both tradition and innovation.
All vineyards are located exclusively within the borders of Porrera, and production is intentionally kept low to ensure the highest quality. Each bottle of Clos Monlleó is not just wine – it is a concentrated expression of nature, heritage, and craftsmanship.
