Château Montrose Saint-Estèphe 2014 – 2. Cru Classé with power, prestige and ageing potential

Château Montrose 2014 is a true classic from Saint-Estèphe and one of the absolute top wines of the appellation. As a 2nd Cru Classé, Montrose stands alongside Cos d’Estournel in the top league – often referred to as the “Latour of Saint-Estèphe” for its power, structure and uncompromising style.

The 2014 vintage delivers a wine with concentration, depth and impressive balance. Montrose is known for its distinctive structure and enormous ageing potential, but in 2014, its power is combined with a beautiful freshness and precision that makes the wine both classic and harmonious.

It is a wine that is often idolized by international wine critics and is increasingly seen as an attractive investment wine. Demand is high – especially in the en primeur trade – and the quality is remarkably stable year after year.

Serve at 16-18°C and give the wine 1-2 hours in the decanter. Perfect with beef, lamb, game or hearty stews.

The history of the house

Château Montrose can trace its history back to the late 18th century, when the property originated as a separation from Château Calon-Ségur. The Dumoulin family owned the château for the first 100 years or so and in 1855 managed to get it classified as 2nd Cru Classé, while Calon-Ségur was classified as 3rd Cru.

After several changes of ownership, brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues took over in 2006. With significant investments, they have raised the quality even further and cemented Montrose as one of Médoc’s most respected and stable producers.

Today, Château Montrose is synonymous with power, seriousness and longevity – a wine for the demanding Bordeaux lover and for the collector who wants secure quality in the cellar.
