Clos Saint Jean Sanctus Sanctorum Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2020 Magnum – The Holy of Holies

Sanctus Sanctorum – “The Holy of Holies” – is the ultimate wine from Clos Saint Jean. An iconic 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape made from 100% Grenache from some of the house’s oldest and most prestigious parcels. Only a few hundred bottles are produced in this exclusive Magnum (150 cl) edition, making it a rare collector’s item and a wine for those special moments.

This is the essence of old Grenache: silky smooth texture, intense fruit, deep concentration and decades of aging potential. The magnum format allows for an even slower and more harmonious development – perfect for the cellar or for an unforgettable dinner.

100% Grenache – pure power and elegance

Sanctus Sanctorum is made exclusively from Grenache, which at Clos Saint Jean is never aged in wood. This means that the pure fruit, warmth and finesse of the grape is completely undisturbed. Maceration is long – up to 35 days – to extract maximum depth, structure and complexity.

The 2020 vintage offers a perfect balance between ripeness and freshness. The result is a wine of both monumental power and refined elegance – a true benchmark for Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Intense and seductive with ripe strawberries, cherries and raspberries, accompanied by garrigue, licorice and warm Mediterranean herbs.

Flavor: Silky and concentrated with layer upon layer of red and dark fruit. Notes of spice, light cocoa and a subtle minerality add depth and complexity.

Finish: Extremely long and harmonious with fine, ripe tannins and an elegant, spicy finish that testifies to the wine’s enormous ageing potential.

The history of Clos Saint Jean

The history of Clos Saint Jean in Châteauneuf-du-Pape dates back to the early 1900s. Since 1910, the family has been producing, bottling and selling its own wines since its foundation in 1900. The international breakthrough came in 2003 when Robert Parker praised the wines and placed the house among the elite of the Rhône Valley.

Today, the estate is managed by Pascal and Vincent, who have 44 hectares of vineyards – including 1 hectare dedicated to white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. With a focus on old vines, long maceration and uncompromising quality, Clos Saint Jean is among the most respected producers in the appellation.
