Macallan 1977 Vintage Speyside Single Malt Whisky – 23 Year Old Speymalt by Gordon & Macphail
A legendary vintage for the serious collector and passionate whisky lover: Macallan 1977 Vintage Speyside Single Malt Whisky, aged for a full 23 years and bottled in 2000 as part of the acclaimed Speymalt series by Gordon & Macphail. This is classic sherry-matured Macallan from an era when time, craftsmanship and quality went hand in hand – an exclusive Speyside single malt whisky with depth, power and elegance.
Distilled in 1977 and matured in a sherry butt for 23 years, this whisky develops remarkable complexity. The long maturation in large sherry casks creates a concentrated character with dark fruit, intense sweetness and refined oak. Here you get a whisky where maturity and balance take centre stage – a true collector’s piece and an investment in liquid Scottish history.
Macallan is globally recognised for its uncompromising approach to quality and its focus on sherry-matured casks. When the casks are selected and bottled by Gordon & Macphail, one of Scotland’s most traditional and respected independent whisky houses, you receive a release with both authenticity and prestige. This Macallan 1977 represents the essence of classic Speyside whisky and is an ideal choice for anyone searching for a vintage Macallan with age and character.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep mahogany with dark copper highlights.
Nose: Rich aromas of raisins, prunes and figs, combined with dark chocolate, orange peel and a hint of leather and tobacco.
Palate: Powerful and complex with layers of dried fruit, caramel, toasted nuts and spiced oak. The sherry cask sweetness is elegantly balanced by notes of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Finish: Extra long and warming with lingering cocoa, dark fruit and velvety oak.
The Story of Gordon & Macphail
Gordon & Macphail was founded in 1895 in Elgin, Morayshire – known as “The Whisky Capital of the World”. The town’s proximity to Speyside, where much of Scotland’s malt whisky is produced, combined with the cool, damp climate along the River Lossie, creates ideal conditions for whisky maturation over decades.
As an independent bottler, Gordon & Macphail has built exceptional expertise over generations in selecting and maturing casks from Scotland’s most prestigious distilleries. With respect for traditional methods – dating back to the first official whisky licence granted in 1824 – the house ensures that each bottling preserves the authentic character and quality of malt whisky.
