Château Calon Ségur 3rd Cru Classé Saint-Estèphe 2014 – Classic Bordeaux with a historic heart

Château Calon Ségur 2014 is a true classic from the northernmost of the classified Cru chateaux in the Médoc. As the 3rd Cru Classé of Saint-Estèphe, this wine combines power, structure and finesse with a history dating back to the Middle Ages.

Located northwest of the village of Saint-Estèphe, the property is considered one of the three oldest vineyards in the appellation. Here, the gravelly soil and cool proximity to the Gironde estuary create wines with distinctive structure, great freshness and impressive ageing potential.

The 2014 vintage offers a classic Saint-Estèphe style with a firm backbone, dark fruit and elegant balance. It’s a wine that already shows great harmony, but also has the potential for many years of development in the cellar.

Serve at 16-18°C and oxygenate the wine an hour before serving. Perfect with beef, game, lamb or hearty simmered dishes.

The history of the house

Château Calon Ségur can trace its history back to 1147, when the property was owned by Monseigneur de Calon. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands and after being in the de Ségur family for generations, it became part of the possessions of the Marquis de Ségur.

The Marquis de Ségur also owned the famous 1. Cru châteaux Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Latour in Pauillac. He is quoted as saying: “I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon”. This quote is the reason why the heart has been the iconic symbol of Château Calon Ségur for many years.

Today, the château stands as one of Saint-Estèphe’s most respected producers – known for wines with structure, depth and true Bordeaux soul.
