Kilchoman Machir Bay Islay Single Malt 46%

Kilchoman Machir Bay 46% is a classic Islay Single Malt with plenty of personality. Here you’ll find the characteristic Kilchoman style, where peat smoke, fresh citrus, sweet malt, and maritime notes come together in a beautiful and vibrant whisky.

Machir Bay is named after the spectacular beach on Islay’s west coast, not far from the Kilchoman Distillery. This whisky is one of the distillery’s best-known releases and elegantly demonstrates why Kilchoman has earned such a strong reputation among lovers of smoky Islay whisky.

90% ex-bourbon and 10% Oloroso sherry

Kilchoman Machir Bay is matured in 90% ex-bourbon casks and 10% Oloroso sherry casks. The combination has been carefully selected to preserve Kilchoman’s fresh, smoky, and fruity distillery character.

The ex-bourbon casks impart the whisky’s characteristic notes of vanilla, citrus, and sweetness. The 10% Oloroso sherry casks add extra depth, spice, and a rounded fruitiness. The result is a harmonious Islay Single Malt, where the smoke is distinct without overpowering the fruit.

With an alcohol content of 46%, Machir Bay offers both intensity and structure. It is a whisky that works excellently for both the experienced Islay enthusiast and those wishing to explore Kilchoman for the first time.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh citrus, vanilla, and sweet malt meet distinct peat smoke. This is followed by ripe fruits, light spices, and a hint of the sea’s salty character.

Taste: Full-bodied and vibrant with lemon, vanilla, sweet malt, and ripe fruit. The peat smoke intensifies in the glass, accompanied by black pepper, spices, and subtle maritime notes.

Finish: Long and warm with lingering peat smoke, citrus, vanilla, and sweet malt. A beautiful finish with spices and classic Islay character.

Kilchoman Distillery – Islay’s farm distillery

Kilchoman Distillery was founded by Anthony Wills in 2005 at Rockside Farm on Islay. The vision was to revive the tradition of small farm distilleries and create whisky with a strong connection between the raw ingredients, the landscape, and the finished whisky.

Kilchoman grows some of its own barley in the fields surrounding the distillery and carries out an unusually large portion of its production on the farm. The Wills family continues to run Kilchoman, which has now gained international recognition for its distinctive Islay single malts.

Machir Bay has become a modern Kilchoman classic. The combination of bourbon casks, Oloroso sherry casks, fruit, and distinctive peat smoke results in a whisky with freshness, power, and the unmistakable character of Islay.
